Anthurium veitchii narrow form - Exact Specimen
Anthurium veitchii narrow form is collected for the fine detail of its foliage: closely spaced lateral veins, narrow ridges and densely packed pleats. This tighter ribbing gives the leaves a richly corrugated surface, with light catching the raised sections and shadow settling into the grooves. On mature foliage, the glossy green finish and leathery texture make that repeated pattern particularly striking.
The close spacing of the ribs is the key feature that distinguishes narrow form from plants sold as wide form, which have more widely spaced ribbing. Overall leaf width and proportions can vary between individual plants and as they mature. Narrow form is a horticultural description within Anthurium veitchii; the appeal for collectors is its tightly pleated leaf surface.
Known as the King Anthurium, this species is native to Colombia, where it grows as an epiphyte in wet tropical habitats. Its leaves become longer and increasingly pendulous with maturity. An elevated position gives the foliage room to hang and allows the ribbing to be appreciated along the full blade. Growing a younger plant on offers the pleasure of watching this texture and leaf length develop over successive growth.
This exact specimen is growing in a 120mm pot and carries eight leaves in total, including one newly emerged leaf. The newest leaf will continue to expand and harden, adding another stage of foliage development to follow as the plant grows.
Pot size: 120mm
Total leaves: 8, including the newly emerged leaf
Current new growth: 1 newly emerged leaf
Form: narrow form
Light: Bright indirect light; protect from harsh direct sunlight
Water: Keep the growing mix lightly moist but well drained, allowing the upper portion to dry slightly between waterings. Water less frequently when growth slows in winter
Humidity: Appreciates high humidity with good airflow. Keep developing leaves clear of nearby surfaces so they have room to unfurl
Growing Mix: Open and freely draining, with coarse material such as orchid bark to provide air around the roots
Temperature: Keep warm, ideally above 18°C, and protect from cold draughts
Fertiliser: Feed during active growth with an orchid fertiliser, following the product’s dilution instructions
Growth Habit: Epiphytic Anthurium developing long, tightly corrugated and increasingly pendulous foliage
Safety: Harmful if eaten and may irritate skin and eyes; keep away from children and pets
Common names: King Anthurium.
This listing is for the exact specimen described above. Foliage shape, ribbing and size will continue to develop as it grows.
