Anthurium Mix

Anthurium Mix

Our Anthurium Mix is a meticulously crafted potting medium designed specifically to support the healthy growth and vibrant blooms of Anthurium plants. This mix combines a selection of natural components to create a perfect balance of airiness, moisture retention, and nutrient supply, ensuring your anthuriums flourish. Key Components: Coco Coir: A small amount of coco coir is included to enhance water retention while maintaining a light and airy texture. Perlite: This component improves drainage and prevents waterlogging, promoting optimal root respiration. Pine Bark: Provides structural stability and slowly releases nutrients, mimicking the natural environment of epiphytic anthuriums. Coco Chips: Contribute to the overall structure and enhance moisture retention. Benefits: Airy and Coarse Texture: The mix is designed to be airy and coarse, allowing plenty of oxygen to reach the roots, which is essential for the health of anthuriums. Water and Fertiliser Retention: The natural elements in the mix retain water and fertiliser efficiently, ensuring your plants receive the sustenance they need over time. Balanced Fertiliser Infusion: Infused with a balanced and light fertiliser, this mix supports the growth of new plants by providing essential nutrients without overwhelming them. Our Anthurium Mix is ideal for both novice and experienced plant enthusiasts seeking to cultivate robust and healthy anthuriums. By choosing our mix, you are ensuring an optimal growing environment that supports the unique needs of these beautiful plants. SIZES: Medium: suitable for 4 x 100mm pots Large: suitable for 8 x 100mm pots XL: suitable for 12 x 100mm pots

Aroid Mix

Premium Aroid Potting Mix For plant enthusiasts looking to cultivate healthy Philodendrons, Monsteras, and other aroids, our specially formulated potting mix is the ideal solution. This blend is designed to meet the unique needs of these popular plants, promoting strong root systems and vibrant foliage. Exceptional Drainage What sets our potting mix apart from standard options? We prioritise outstanding drainage. Our mix includes coarse, well-draining materials such as pumice, coco chips, perlite, orchid bark, and charcoal. These components prevent compaction, enhance air circulation around the roots, and reduce the risk of root rot, a common issue for aroids. Tailored for Aroids We understand that aroids have specific water and nutrient needs. Our formula minimises fine materials that retain excess moisture, ensuring the perfect balance for healthy root development and robust growth. Balanced Moisture Retention While drainage is crucial, aroids still need hydration. We include coconut coir or peat moss to retain just enough moisture, allowing essential water to reach the roots while preventing water logging. The Ideal Growing Environment Our potting mix provides the perfect balance of air, moisture, and nutrients, creating an optimal foundation for vibrant foliage, flourishing growth, and long-term plant health. Key Benefits Robust Root Development: Enhanced airflow supports healthy root growth and efficient nutrient uptake. Reduced Root Rot Risk: Exceptional drainage protects against waterlogging and root rot. Optimised Growth: The balanced composition encourages vigorous growth and lush foliage. Long-Lasting Plant Health: This specialised mix lays the groundwork for thriving aroids that bring lasting joy. The bags sizes available are : Small: suitable for 1 x 140mm pot Medium: suitable for 2 x 140mm pots Large: suitable for 4 x 140mm pots XLarge: suitable for 6 x 140mm pots For more information read my blog entry on making The Ultimate Aroid Mix.

Blue Torch Cactus

Blue Torch Cactus

The Blue Torch Cactus, scientifically known as Pilosocereus azureus, is a captivating addition to any succulent collection. This rare and slow-growing cactus is native to the semi-tropical regions of South America, particularly Brazil. It is distinguished by its striking blue-green stems and contrasting golden spines, which make it a standout among cacti. The Blue Torch Cactus typically grows in a columnar shape, reaching heights of 3 to 6 metres over time, although it can grow taller in its natural habitat. Its unique blue hue becomes more pronounced with adequate sunlight, as the plant develops a waxy coating that acts as a natural sunscreen.  This cactus is well-suited for both indoor and outdoor environments, thriving in bright light and well-draining soil. It is drought-tolerant once established, requiring minimal maintenance. During the summer, the Blue Torch Cactus blooms with large, white flowers that open at night, attracting nocturnal pollinators such as moths and bats. These blooms add an elegant touch to the cactus's already striking appearance.  Despite its exotic look, the Blue Torch Cactus is relatively easy to care for, making it an excellent choice for both novice and experienced plant enthusiasts. Notes: This impressive specimen is a rare find, having taken over two years to reach its current size. Due to its substantial dimensions, it will need to be collected or delivered from our greenhouse located in Coogee, within the Sydney metro area. Height ~ 40cm (plant), 65cm (pot + Plant) Width ∼ 30cm

Euphorbia ammak XL

Euphorbia ammak XL

Euphorbia ammak, commonly known as the variegated candelabra tree or ghost Euphorbia, is a striking succulent native to Western Asia and North Africa. This plant is characterised by its unique yellow and green variegated stems, which can grow to impressive heights under optimal conditions. Despite its adaptability to various environments, Euphorbia ammak remains fairly rare in Australia, particularly in mature sizes, making it a sought-after addition for collectors and enthusiasts. In Australia, Euphorbia ammak has adapted well to the coastal climate, although it is not frost-tolerant and requires careful positioning to avoid cold damage. It thrives in full sun or partial shade and needs well-draining soil to prevent root rot. While it can grow up to 30 centimetres annually in ideal conditions, it is generally considered a slow-growing plant, especially when compared to other succulents. This species is also known for its resilience against pests and its ability to withstand harsh sunlight without burning. However, it is important to handle the plant with care due to its toxic sap, which can irritate skin and eyes. Euphorbia ammak produces small yellow-green flowers, typically in the autumn or winter, adding a subtle yet interesting feature to its overall appearance. NOTES: This impressive specimen is a rare find, having taken over two years to reach its current size. Due to its substantial dimensions, it will need to be collected or delivered from our greenhouse located in Coogee, within the Sydney metro area. Height ~ 85 cm (cactus), 150cm (plant + Pot) Width ∼ 45cm (pot)
