Calathea ‘Beauty Star’
Goeppertia ‘Beautystar’, still widely known as Calathea ‘Beauty Star’, is grown for its beautifully patterned foliage. The long, dark green leaves are brushed with brighter green through the centre, overlaid with fine pink and silvery lines, while the undersides carry rich reddish-purple colouring.
What I like about Beauty Star is that the pattern becomes more interesting the closer you look. It isn’t a loud variegated plant; the contrast comes from those finer stripes and the change in colour between the upper and lower surfaces of the leaves.
It forms a compact, bushy clump and typically stays around 40 cm tall, making it easy to accommodate on a plant stand, shelf or grouped with other foliage plants.
Light: Bright indirect light or light shade; protect from direct sunlight
Water: Keep the growing mix lightly moist but well drained, reducing watering slightly during cooler periods
Humidity: Appreciates high humidity and protection from dry draughts
Growth Habit: Compact, clump-forming tropical perennial
Common names: Calathea Beauty Star, Calathea Beautystar, Goeppertia Beautystar, Prayer Plant.
Each plant is unique and may vary slightly in size, fullness and foliage patterning.
