Calathea Sanderiana
Calathea Sanderiana is recognised by its fine pink pinstripes, which spread out from the midrib across broad, glossy green leaves. The lines sit in delicate groups against the dark background, creating its distinctive striped pattern.
The leaf backs are rich purple to burgundy, adding a deeper colour beneath the striped upper surface. Like other prayer plants, the leaves adjust their position as light levels change, occasionally revealing more of those contrasting undersides.
Its upright, clump-forming habit creates a layered display of patterned leaves. A warm position with filtered light and humid air suits it well, away from heaters and drying air-conditioning.
Light: Bright indirect or filtered light; protect from harsh direct sunlight
Water: Keep the growing mix lightly and evenly moist with good drainage; avoid prolonged drying or leaving the pot standing in water
Humidity: Appreciates high humidity, warmth and gentle airflow; protect from cold draughts
Growth Habit: Upright, clump-forming prayer plant with broad, patterned foliage
Common names: Calathea Sanderiana, Pinstripe Calathea, Pinstripe Plant.
Each plant is unique and may vary in size, fullness, leaf proportions and the colour and definition of its pinstriping.
