Propagation mix
This is the propagation mix I use for cuttings that need consistent moisture without being kept in a heavy or waterlogged medium. It is particularly well suited to aroids and Anthuriums, but can be used for a wide range of soft to medium stem cuttings.
The mix is made with approximately 70–75% coco coir, combined with coarse perlite. The coco coir holds enough moisture around the cutting to help prevent it drying out while roots are developing, while the coarse perlite adds air spaces through the mix and helps excess water move through more freely.
I also add a small amount of fertiliser to the mix, so that some nutrients are available once new roots begin to establish. The mix is supplied ready to use and does not need anything added before propagation.
Best suited for
-
Aroid cuttings
-
Anthurium propagation
-
Philodendron and Monstera cuttings
-
Soft to medium stem cuttings
-
Newly rooting plants that benefit from a moisture-retentive propagation medium
What’s in the mix
Coco coir: Approximately 70–75%
Coarse perlite: Approximately 25–30%
Fertiliser: Lightly amended with a small amount of fertiliser
How to use
Place the cutting into the mix and keep it evenly moist while roots are developing. The aim is to maintain consistent moisture around the cutting without leaving the mix saturated.
This is designed as a temporary propagation medium rather than a permanent potting mix. Once a cutting has developed roots and begins producing active new growth, I recommend moving it into a mix better suited to its longer-term needs, such as an Anthurium Mix or Aroid Mix.

| Extra Large | 12 litres | 20 × 100 mm pots |
Packed Dry for Easier Shipping
The mix is packed relatively dry to reduce unnecessary shipping weight and make it easier to store.
The stated volume refers to the approximate amount of prepared mix after hydration and fluffing, not the compressed volume inside the shipping bag.
Open the bag carefully and avoid breathing airborne dust. Lightly dampening the mix before handling can help reduce dust.
Made to Order
Propagation Mix is prepared and packed to order. Please allow approximately 2–3 business days for preparation before dispatch.
-
Standard shipping is recommended as the more economical option.
-
Express shipping is available when a faster carrier service is preferred.
-
Pickup is available by arrangement.
-
Local delivery may be available for larger quantities.
Shipping time begins after the preparation period. Choosing Express shipping speeds up the carrier’s delivery service but does not remove the 2–3 business day preparation time.
Pot designs and capacities vary, so all pot-fill quantities should be treated as approximate.
