Tillandsia fuchsii f. gracilis
Tillandsia fuchsii f. gracilis is a delicate and distinctive collector air plant admired for its exceptionally fine, silvery foliage and compact, pincushion-like form. Its thread-like leaves radiate from a rounded central rosette, creating a soft, sculptural appearance unlike that of most commonly grown Tillandsias.
As the plant matures, it may produce a remarkably long, slender flower stem carrying small violet-purple blooms. The height and elegance of the inflorescence create a dramatic contrast with the plant’s compact foliage, making flowering specimens particularly striking.
After flowering, the plant produces offsets around the base and may gradually develop into an attractive cluster. Its small size and refined form make it ideal for mounting on cork or timber, displaying individually, or incorporating into mixed air plant arrangements.
Light: Bright filtered light with some gentle morning sun
Water: Water thoroughly once or twice a week, increasing during warm or dry conditions, then allow the plant to dry completely with excellent airflow
Humidity: Appreciates moderate humidity but should not remain wet for extended periods
Growth Habit: Compact, rounded air plant with extremely fine silvery foliage that produces offsets after flowering
Common names: Pincushion Air Plant, Fuchsii Gracilis Air Plant, Argentea Thin Air Plant, Argentea Thin.
Each plant is unique and may vary slightly in size, shape, colour, maturity, offset development and flowering stage.
