Tillandsia paleacea
Tillandsia paleacea is a distinctive collector air plant admired for its slender, silvery foliage and beautifully textured appearance. The leaves are densely covered in specialised moisture-absorbing trichomes, giving the plant its soft, frosted finish and helping it thrive in naturally dry environments.
As the plant matures, it develops an elongated, stem-forming growth habit and regularly produces offsets along the older sections of the stem. These new growths gradually develop into an impressive branching cluster, making Tillandsia paleacea particularly attractive when suspended or mounted where its sculptural form can be fully appreciated.
Mature plants may produce a long flower spike carrying delicate violet blooms, which create a striking contrast against the pale silver foliage. Unusual, architectural and highly rewarding over time, Tillandsia paleacea is an excellent choice for collectors who appreciate xeric Tillandsias with strong texture and character.
Light: Bright filtered light with some gentle morning sun
Water: Water thoroughly, then allow the plant to dry completely before watering again; this xeric species prefers less frequent watering than many green-leaved Tillandsias
Humidity: Prefers low to moderate humidity with excellent airflow
Growth Habit: Stem-forming air plant that produces offsets and gradually develops into a branching cluster
Common names: Paleacea Air Plant, Silver Paleacea Air Plant, T. paleacea, Tillandsia Paleacea.
Each plant is unique and may vary slightly in size, shape, colour, maturity, offset development and flowering stage.
