Calathea makoyana
The Calathea makoyana, often called the Peacock Plant or Cathedral Windows, is an elegant tropical beauty known for its distinctive leaf patterns. This striking prayer plant features oval-shaped leaves decorated with intricate patterns that resemble feathers or stained glass windows. The top of each leaf displays dark green markings on a pale green background, while the undersides are a beautiful wine-red colour, creating a stunning contrast when the leaves move throughout the day.
Native to eastern Brazil, this Calathea is particularly admired for its ornamental value and the daily movement of its leaves. As with other prayer plants, the leaves fold upward at night and unfurl in the morning, adding a dynamic element to its already impressive display. Its medium size makes it perfect for tabletops or shelves where its detailed patterns can be appreciated up close.
