Mexican Fence Post
The Mexican Fence Post, scientifically known as Pachycereus marginatus, is a striking cactus native to regions in central Mexico, including Hidalgo, Querétaro, and Guanajua.
This cactus is renowned for its tall, columnar trunks that can reach impressive heights of up to 6 metres in optimal conditions. Its aesthetic appeal is enhanced by the geometric shape of its dark green stems, which are adorned with short spines and occasionally bloom with pinkish-red flowers in the spring.
In Australia, the Mexican Fence Post is relatively rare, making it a unique addition to any garden. It is a slow-growing species, typically reaching a height of 3.5 metres when cultivated in the ground. This slow growth rate, combined with its rarity, adds to its allure among cactus enthusiasts.
The plant thrives in full sun and requires well-draining soil, with occasional watering during hot, dry months. Due to its frost sensitivity, it is best suited to warmer climates, where it can be a striking feature in desert or tropical landscapes.

This impressive specimen is a rare find, having taken over two years to reach its current size. Due to its substantial dimensions, it will need to be collected or delivered from our greenhouse located in Coogee, within the Sydney metro area.
