The Tillandsia tectorum is an absolutely stunning air plant that I'm thrilled to offer, renowned for its distinctive fuzzy, silvery-white appearance that makes it one of the most visually striking bromeliads available. This remarkable epiphyte is covered in dense trichomes (tiny hairs) that give it an almost snow-white, woolly texture, creating a dramatic contrast against its compact, rosette form and making it appear almost otherworldly in its beauty.
I do not recommend keeping this plant indoors. It must be grown in bright light (or full sun), good airflow, and infrequent waterings. Under a tree, verandah or deck, or in a shadehouse are all great locations for this plant. Ensure the area you choose has good air flow to help the plant dry out between waterings.
This plant is around 30 cm wide by 25 cm deep.

Light:
Bright, indirect light with some direct morning sun is ideal. Can tolerate more direct sunlight than most air plants due to its protective trichomes, but avoid harsh afternoon sun.
Water:
Mist lightly once or twice per week, allowing water to sit briefly on the trichomes before shaking off excess. Avoid soaking this species as the dense, fuzzy coating can trap moisture and cause rot.
Humidity:
Tolerates lower humidity than most air plants, thriving in 40-60% humidity. Excellent air circulation is essential to prevent moisture retention in the dense trichomes.
Temperature:
The Ideal temperature range is 15-27°C, with a minimum of 10°C. More tolerant of temperature fluctuations than most air plants due to its hardy nature.
Soil:
No soil required - this is an epiphytic air plant that absorbs nutrients and moisture through its specialised trichomes.
Support:
Mount on driftwood, cork bark, or display in open terrariums. Ensure excellent air circulation around the entire plant to prevent moisture buildup.
Fertiliser: Feed monthly with heavily diluted
GT Foliage applied as a light mist during the growing season.
Toxicity:
This plant is non-toxic and safe around children and pets.
