Variegated Mini Monstera

Rhaphidophora tetrasperma Variegated is the variegated form of the plant most people know as Mini Monstera. Despite the common name, it isn’t actually a Monstera at all — it belongs to the genus Rhaphidophora. I still include it in both the Rhaphidophora and Monstera sections of the website, as Mini Monstera is the name many people know and search for.

The variegation adds another dimension to an already interesting plant, with green foliage broken by cream-to-white patterning that can vary considerably from one leaf to the next. As the plant climbs and matures, the leaves develop the characteristic deep divisions that give Rhaphidophora tetrasperma its familiar Monstera-like appearance.

I particularly like growing this one vertically. Give it a moss pole or another sturdy support and the aerial roots have something to attach to, allowing the plant to develop naturally and giving the foliage room to increase in size.

Light: Bright indirect light; protect the pale variegated sections from harsh direct sunlight
Water: Allow the upper portion of the growing mix to dry slightly between waterings
Humidity: Appreciates moderate to high humidity with good airflow
Growth Habit: Climbing aroid that benefits from sturdy vertical support
