Alocasia ‘Stingray’

Alocasia ‘Stingray’ is one of the most distinctive Alocasias, named for the unusual shape of its foliage. Each glossy green leaf narrows into a long, tail-like tip, creating the unmistakable silhouette of a stingray.

The leaves are carried upright on tall, often mottled petioles, giving the plant a strong architectural form as it develops. Mature leaves can reach around 60 cm long, and established plants may grow approximately 1–1.5 metres tall and wide under suitable conditions.

What I like about ‘Stingray’ is that it doesn’t rely on variegation or dramatic colouring to stand out — the leaf shape alone gives it a completely different character from most other Alocasias.

Light: Bright indirect or filtered light; protect from harsh direct sunlight
Water: Keep the growing mix moist but well drained, allowing the upper portion to dry slightly between waterings
Humidity: Appreciates moderate to high humidity with good airflow
Growth Habit: Upright Alocasia reaching approximately 1–1.5 metres tall and wide at maturity
