Tillandsia funckiana
Tillandsia funckiana is a distinctive collector air plant admired for its twisting stems, fine needle-like foliage and unusual sculptural growth. Unlike the compact rosette form of many Tillandsias, this species develops an elongated stem that curves naturally as it grows, creating an increasingly dramatic display over time.
Mature plants produce offsets along the stem and can gradually form impressive hanging clusters. Its narrow leaves give the plant a light, delicate appearance, while the irregular, branching growth provides plenty of character when mounted on cork, timber or suspended where its form can be fully appreciated.
When approaching flowering, the foliage near the growing tip may develop a warm reddish blush before producing a brilliant scarlet-red tubular flower with contrasting yellow stamens. Fast-growing, architectural and highly rewarding, Tillandsia funckiana is an excellent choice for collectors looking for an air plant with an unusual growth habit and spectacular flowers.
