Tillandsia tectorum — Snowball Air Plant
Tillandsia tectorum is an exceptional collector air plant prized for its brilliant white colouring and soft, cloud-like appearance. Its slender leaves are covered in an unusually dense layer of long, feathery trichomes, giving the plant its distinctive frosted finish while helping it absorb moisture and cope with naturally dry conditions.
As the plant matures, its silvery-white leaves form an increasingly full and sculptural rosette. Mature specimens may produce offsets and gradually develop into an impressive cluster. When flowering, a slender inflorescence emerges above the foliage, carrying pinkish-purple bracts and delicate violet flowers.
Highly adapted to bright, arid environments, Tillandsia tectorum prefers less frequent watering than many greener Tillandsias and requires excellent airflow after becoming wet. Its extraordinary texture, pale colouring and architectural form make it a standout addition to any air plant collection.
Light: Very bright filtered light with some gentle morning sun
Water: Water thoroughly but less frequently than green-leaved Tillandsias, then shake away excess moisture and allow the plant to dry completely with excellent airflow
Humidity: Prefers low to moderate humidity and should not remain wet for extended periods
Growth Habit: Slow-growing, silvery-white rosette that may produce offsets and gradually form a cluster
Common names: Snowball Air Plant, White Air Plant, Roof Air Plant, Tectorum Air Plant.
Each plant is unique and may vary slightly in size, shape, colour, trichome density, maturity, offset development and flowering stage.
