Monstera filamentosa
Monstera filamentosa is one of the more unusual Monstera species, with foliage that changes dramatically as the plant matures. Juvenile leaves begin relatively simple, but established plants develop long, deeply divided leaves with narrow lobes and distinctive thread-like strands spanning some of the openings.
That mature foliage is what really sets this species apart. Rather than the broad fenestrations associated with many familiar Monsteras, M. filamentosa develops an almost feathered appearance, with the fine connecting fibres adding another layer of detail.
It is naturally a climber, so I would grow this one vertically and give it a sturdy support from an early stage. This allows the plant to follow its natural growth habit and gives the foliage room to develop into its mature form.
Light: Bright indirect or filtered light; protect from harsh direct sunlight
Water: Keep the growing mix lightly moist but well drained, allowing the upper portion to dry slightly between waterings
Humidity: Appreciates moderate to high humidity with good airflow
Growth Habit: Climbing hemiepiphytic aroid that benefits from sturdy vertical support
Common names: Monstera Filamentosa.
Each plant is unique and may vary slightly in size, shape, maturity and degree of leaf division.
