Nephrolepis biserrata ‘Macho’ — Giant Sword Fern
📍 Collection Only — Pickup from Coogee, Sydney
Nephrolepis biserrata ‘Macho’ is an impressive tropical fern prized for its long, broad fronds and lush, arching growth. Larger and more substantial than the traditional Boston Fern, it develops into a bold specimen with a full, cascading appearance.
Large Specimen: 90cm wide x 50cm high
Medium Specimen: 45cm wide x 40cm wide
Its strong, glossy green fronds grow outward from the centre before arching gracefully as they lengthen. With sufficient space, ‘Macho’ can develop into a substantial feature plant, making it particularly effective in large pots, hanging baskets, shaded patios and sheltered tropical gardens.
Fast growing and highly rewarding, this fern brings instant texture and abundant greenery to warm, protected spaces. Consistent moisture, filtered light and protection from drying winds will help maintain its dense, vibrant foliage.
Light: Bright indirect light or filtered shade; protect from harsh afternoon sunlight
Water: Keep the potting mix consistently lightly moist, but never waterlogged or sitting in water
Humidity: Appreciates moderate to high humidity with good airflow
Growth Habit: Large, spreading fern with long, upright-to-arching fronds
Common names: Macho Fern, Giant Sword Fern, Broad Sword Fern, Large Sword Fern, Nephrolepis biserrata ‘Macho’.
Each plant is unique and may vary slightly in size, shape, fullness, maturity and growth habit.
Plant Size: Medium
